Lower School Curriculum

Kindergarten to Grade Four

Our focus on the development of the whole child - including social, emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual growth - begins with a preschool and Lower School program designed to encourage exploration, creativity, social interaction, and self-motivation. Studies in reading, language arts, mathematics, and physical and social sciences are accompanied by enrichment courses in music, art, computer science, library skills, and physical fitness. The Harcourt-Brace reading series is used throughout the Lower School, along with the computer-based reading and writing program Sequoyah for kindergarten and first grade students, and Writing Wizards for second graders. Spanish and French are taught in kindergarten through fourth grade, along with a science program based on discovery through first-hand experience. Classrooms for early grades are self-contained, while older children change classrooms in preparation for the change to Middle School.

Lower School students enjoy activities such as Grandparents Day, Field Day, theatrical presentations, science fairs, and field trips. Active scouting troops are also available for those who are interested.
