The Technology Department at Franklin Road Academy is busy preparing for the 2008-2009 school year. We are writing this letter to give you the information you need to prepare for the summer and the new school year.

Replacement Purchase Cycle for Lenovo X41—2009-2010 School Year
The replacement cycle for the Lenovo X41 series is scheduled for 2009-2010 school year. Many parents have asked me if they are able to purchase a new tablet early given that the machine cycle for 10th grade is three years. You have two choices.
1. You may purchase the replacement machine this year which will cycle you through the senior year at FRA.
2. You may purchase next year which will cycle you through two years at FRA and one year of college.
In both choices, the warranty remains for three years and you can expect the price to be about the same. If you decide to purchase a new machine this year, we have included an order form.
Accidental Damage Protection (ADP)
Accidental Damage Protection is the warranty that covers damage due to spills, drops, and physical abuse. The FRA policy regarding ADP claims is one free claim per academic year. The academic year in terms of the policy begins July 1st and ends June 30th. If your machine has damage and you want to take advantage of this policy, please submit repairs during the calendar time.
Backup
Backup is one of the most important tasks you can do to protect your data. The FRA Help Desk staff encourages all students to backup frequently. This summer we are offering a special purchase of a portable external 120 GB hard drive with a 3 year warranty to be used for backup of school related files, music, and pictures. The price of the backup drive is $90.00 including tax. Please have your child stop by the help desk for more information. If you are purchasing a new machine the backup drive is included in the purchase.
FRA will continue to provide support for tablet PCs during the summer. The FRA Help Desk is located inside the L.M. Crockett Library. Our summer hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. In order to serve you better, please call the help desk first before you arrive on campus. We have a number of summer projects and may be working in another building. We look forward to the upcoming school year!
