Dear FRA Families,

The Technology Department at Franklin Road Academy is busy preparing for the 2008-2009 school year.  We are writing this letter to give you the information you need to prepare for the summer and the new school year.

All students in 7th through 12th grade are required to purchase a tablet PC. The replacement schedule for the tablet PC is three years.

*If purchase cycle falls during senior year, the purchase of a new tablet is optional.  However, the accidental damage protection warranty may have expired after the completed three year cycle.

Seniors & Accidental Damage Protection (ADP)
The Fujitsu tablet has a standard 4-year warranty but only a 3-year damage protection warranty.  The senior machines are entering their 4th year of deployment.  The senior class has a choice whether to purchase the new tablet.  However, it is very important to know that any and all physical damage will not be covered for seniors’ machines.  In the event of physical damage (drops, spills, or screen damage), FRA will prepare a repair estimate.  With your approval, we will then repair and charge you for the replacement parts.  Labor will be provided without charge.  Depending on how well your child has taken care of the current machine, you may want to consider purchasing the new machine which includes the new warranty cycle.   We have included an order form if you choose to purchase a new machine.   

Backup
Backup is one of the most important tasks you can do to protect your data.  The FRA Help Desk staff encourages all students to backup frequently.  This summer we are offering a special purchase of a portable external 120 GB hard drive with a 3 year warranty to be used for backup of school related files, music, and pictures.  The price of the backup drive is $90.00 including tax. Please have your child stop by the help desk for more information.

FRA will continue to provide support for tablet PCs during the summer.  The FRA Help Desk is located inside the L.M. Crockett Library.  Our summer hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.  In order to serve you better, please call the help desk first before you arrive on campus.  We have a number of summer projects and may be working in another building.  We look forward to the upcoming school year!  The technology team is available to help you with all of your technology needs.  If you have any questions, or if we may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
