FRA Technology - Letter from Steve Compton

Dear FRA Families,

The Technology Department at Franklin Road Academy is busy preparing for the 2008-2009 school year. We are writing this letter to give you the information you need to prepare for the summer and the new school year.

Replacement Purchase Cycles

All students in 7th through 12th grade are required to purchase a tablet PC. The replacement schedule for the tablet PC is three years.

*If purchase cycle falls during senior year, the purchase of a new tablet is optional. However, the accidental damage warranty may have expired after the completed three year cycle.

Accidental Damage Protection (ADP)
Accidental Damage Protection is the warranty that covers damage due to spills, drops, and physical abuse. The FRA policy regarding ADP claims is one free claim per academic year. The academic year in terms of the policy begins July 1st and ends June 30th. If your machine has damage and you want to take advantage of this policy, please submit repairs during the calendar time.

Backup
Backup is one of the most important tasks you can do to protect your data. The FRA Help Desk staff encourages all students to backup frequently. The Gateway E155 model included an external backup drive. Students are encouraged to make valid backups of documents, music, and pictures. If your child is unsure of their backup, have them stop by the help desk.

Battery Replacements
The standard battery warranty is one year that expires on June 1st, 2008. Some families purchased the extended life battery plan. If you have issues with your battery please have your child stop by the help desk.

FRA will continue to provide support for tablet PCs during the summer. The FRA Help Desk is located inside the L.M. Crockett Library. Our summer hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. In order to serve you better, please call the help desk first before you arrive on campus. We have a number of summer projects and may be working in another building. We look forward to the upcoming school year!
