Theatre

Franklin Road Academy has enjoyed a rich theatrical tradition which began twenty seven years ago with our first musical, Oliver. Since then we have produced Fiddler on the Roof, Guys & Dolls, and How to Succeed in Business.

Stage for Arsenic & Old Lace

Each year there are two main stage performances: the fall production and the spring musical. In 1999, FRA celebrated the opening of a 650 seat state-of-the-art theatre, complete with a three story fly-loft.

To celebrate that opening, FRA produced Shakespeare's As You Like It, a fitting show to open a new theatre as it was also the opening performance of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London.

The programs of study are diverse. Students enjoy classes in Drama and Theatre Tech. To date, FRA Theatre Department students have received high accolades. Ballard Boyd, a former FRA student, had a film aired on HBO Family during his senior year. Two other students are now studying film at the University of Southern California and Columbia University. Additionally, FRA graduates have gone on to study Theatre at Auburn University and Emerson University. Two recent grads, Ann Marie Gideon & Mary Catherine Moore, are currently enrolled in theatre (BFA) programs. The rich heritage of theatre at FRA will continue to grow as support from parents and the community strengthens.
