2004 Girls Cross Country
With new head coach, Dean Cole, at the helm, and under the capable leadership of senior captains Caitlin Ford, Lauren Huddleston, and Jess Walker, the Girls Cross Country Team set out on a mission to accomplish something that has never been done in the history of the Lady Panthers Cross Country Program: to qualify as a team for the TSSAA State Meet! Coach Cole, “The girls' times have been improving all season the way we want them to and they are poised to get this done.” In addition to the three seniors mentioned above, the other team members are juniors Katie Giglio, Sammie Martin, and Emily West; and freshmen Liz Boyd, Sarah DeMarco, Stella Kamm, Sarah Moore, and Addison Nichols. To Coach Cole's astonishment there are no sophomores on this year's team!
Coach Cole, “This is a team goal (qualifying for State) and it will take every member of the team contributing in some way in order to achieve it. I've stressed over and over again that every single member of this team is important, whether they are in the top seven or not. The sport of Cross Country is all about the team.”
Head Coach: Dean Cole
Looking back at this season, I can't imagine not being a port of one of the most amazing teams at FRA. I'll admit that this summer I was not particularly looking forward to running 3+ miles per day. I'm a printer, you all know that. I'm used to one lap, two is my max. How could I have known that you girls were going to help me reach my full potential just by being there for each other as support, firends, and a family that can only come from that special cross-country bond?
We have done amaxing things as a team this year. Everyone became a stronger runner and a stronger person from the time we've spent together, all working toward the same goal. Not only were times cut again and again, but our team kept growing throughout the season. We had a JV team! A few years ago, there wasn't even a Womens Varsity team, and now there are enough people to require JV.
I have to say thanks to everyone for running and putting in as much physical and emotional effort into this team as you did. Thank you from me, Erica, for being you and for being true friends. Thank you from me, one of your captains, for contributing to this team and making CC '04 such a memorable season. I really hope all of you run next year. Take it all the way to State, I know you can, I know you will. Spur, Quasi, Bob, NASA, Poncho, McGoo, Neo(n), Gigs, Logna, and Emily *wink*: I love you!
