With another outstanding record of 21 wins, 1 loss, and 4 ties, the Girls Soccer Team headed back to Chattanooga last fall with the intent of reclaiming the state title. The team was successful and won the Class A/AA State Championship after finishing as State Runners-Up in 2003 and State Champions in 2002. The following seniors ended their four year FRA soccer career with an overall record of 99 wins; 10 losses; and 10 ties: Anna Cherry, Kristin Garman, Christa Johnson, Ashley Love, Jenny Philip, and Ashley Price.
Coach Ken McDonald, “It's difficult to measure the contribution made by each of these seniors to the FRA soccer program. Their leadership, attitude, and talents set an example for the younger girls, as well as setting high standards for the program's future.” Senior Jenny Philip will continue her soccer career at Washington University in St. Louis, Ashley Price signed an athletic scholarship to play at the University of Kentucky, and Kristin Garman will play for the University of Georgia.
The FRA soccer program was again recognized with the NSCAA/adidas Soccer Boys and Girls High School Academic Team Award for outstanding academic achievement. Forty-two schools throughout the country received the award for both their girls and boys teams. FRA is one of only fifteen schools in the nation which has received this award for both programs in the past two years.
Senior Kristin Garman was named to the 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Girls High School All America Team, the 2004 NSCAA/adidas Girls Youth All America, and the 2004 NSCAA/adidas State Player of the Year. Kristin is one of eight defenders named to the High School Team, and the only girl selected from Tennessee.
Kristin was also selected by The Tennessean as the All Midstate Player of the Year; she was also selected as the Gatorade State Player of the Year. Kristin is the first female athlete in FRA history to be named an All American. She has signed an athletic scholarship to play for the University of Georgia.
