The Panthers are looking forward to another exciting season in 2012. Under the leadership of five returning seniors, Christine Matthews, Emily Smith, Megan Wallstedt, Alex Woodard and Junes Howard, the squad hopes to make improvements, be competitive, have fun and leave a legacy for upcoming players. Other returning players this year include sophomore utility player Kelsey Alexander and freshman Claire Grace, who played last year as an 8th-grader. Joining this mix of veterans will be a talented group of new players. Senior Audrey Kromer and junior Libby McArthur will bring a lot of athleticism and upper-classmen maturity to our team. Sophomore Adia Smith is new to softball but is a quick learner and will quickly become a key player. Another sophomore that is a fresh face is Abby Smith. Finally, the freshmen offer a bright horizon for the future of FRA softball. Paige Wigington, Maci Moss, and Hannah Holmes have hit the field running this season.
The other important recent development in Panther softball is the retirement of longtime coach Jack Nunnally. For over 20 years, he led the program through thick and thin and has nurtured countless athletes, many of whom went on to play at the next level.
Kris Climer enters his 16th season as the assistant coach of the Panthers.
The head coaching duties have been passed to the able hands of Krista Lewis. Coach Lewis (formerly Krista Barts) played softball at Auburn University (2002-2006) More recently, she was a graduate assistant and then an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State University. Her enthusiasm for and knowledge of the game have quickly solidified the promise of what she brings to the program.
You are invited to come cheer for the Panthers as the team's new and returning members pool their talents, their work, their vision, and their hearts to play to the best of their abilities!
