The FRA softball team ended their 2007 season with a tough 5-3
loss to David Lipscomb at Treveeca.
FRA broke a tieless score in the 3rd inning when Emily Canady hit a three run home-run over the center field fence. The home run scored Sara Barnes and Alex Nunnally and gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers held that lead until the bottom of the 5th inning when the Mustangs scored three to tie the score. In the bottom of the 6th, Lipscomb added two runs to seal the win.
Courtney Woodside pitched a great last game and the defense
held strong for most of the game. FRA recorded 5 hits in the game. Sara
Barnes, Alex Nunnally and Kelsie Bottiggi each
had singles, while Emily went 2 for 3 with a walk, home
run, single and 3 RBI's. Emily reached base every time she
came to the plate, just one reason why she was named District 9-AA Offensive
Player of the Year. The third-inning homerun marked Emily's 8th
of the season which sets a single season FRA record for most home-runs, and,
as a junior, she already holds the school record for most in a career. Courtney,
meanwhile will finish her pitching career holding almost every pitching record
in school history. Both Emily and Courtney gave
opponents fits throughout the year.
Overall the girls had a good season. With only 10 players on the team, they became a close knit group and played hard each and every game. The coaching staff is especially proud of the improvement shown by the athletes throughout the course of the season.
We are also thankful for the dedication and leadership of the senior Softball
Panthers, all co-captains, Courtney Woodside, Alex Nunnally, Kelsie
Bottiggi and Devon Whalley. These are great kids
who will do well in any endeavor they choose in the future and will be missed
not only by the team and coaches, but by FRA as a whole.
