2006 Season Review

FRA’s goal this year was to take one game at a time and to improve every night. Two games that stand out this year were beating CPA and Hume Fogg in five games by two points. FRA’s record this year was 12-18. Three girls were recognized at the district tournament. Natalie Murphy made 1st team all district, Mattie Jackson made 2nd team all district, and Sara Beth Gideon was named Honorable mention.

Team Awards: Natalie Murphy received the hustle award. The serving award went to Sarah Kline (145-156). The offense sward went to Mattie Jackson with 84 kills, and the defense award to Sara Beth Gideon. The most improved was given to Julia Haffner and, the blocking award went to Taylor Hemphill who had a total of 22. The team captains included all six seniors: Natalie, Sarah, Sara Beth, Kelsie, Gretchen, and Courtney. They lead the team on and off the court. Senior Manager Timmons did a great job!!

Each one had their own special talent and when they were on the floor together everything went smoothly. We have so much fun the season flies by too fast! I am proud of all of our players and I know that they will succeed in life. Next year’s team looks bright. Returning starters Mattie Jackson and Taylor Himphill join Katie Givens, Lauren Williams, Cristin Hately, Abby Nelson, Julianna Murphy, Morgan Denson, Julia Haffener, and Kendal Beam who will all play roles this next year. During the summer we will attend two camps. (Last year Belmont and MTSU came to FRA for our team camps.) We will host a camp for the Middle School. The girls are required to complete workouts during the summer. We have open gym the month of July and official practice starts August 1st.
