Livin'

This is me, lying in bed, and dew still on the grass, watching the rain trickle down the window pane, beginning in the sky and falling to the ground. I think to myself about everything that is going on today and at the same exact time thinking about everything going on the next day. It is a scary truth when your growing up, you’re constantly being taken care of by someone, but when you’re an adult, you can truly only depend upon yourself and only you can decide where you’re going to go in life. Just me, having a head of black hair, nothing really sticking out about me, just waiting for the next day after the tomorrow, who knows what to do. “Nothing like waking up to another day, nothing to do, only to go back to what I call work, then do what I have done for the past three years of my life, and do it all the next day, this schedule sometimes isn’t worth it.” Now awake, I got dressed and left the house to the dull workplace that awaited me, “I am just going to get through this day and then the weekend.” Later that day, sitting at the Blue Dog bar, starring at the broken clock above the liquor display, just minding my own business with a drink in my hand, nothing special about it at all. A man walked through the door looked around and sat down next to me, not a menacing or intimidating character to me, just scruffy hair and a goofy smile, all wrapped up in a black suit. Under my breath I said “Well isn’t my day going downhill, I have to deal with this shmuck now.” After the man sat down he ordered a drink and then looked at me with a smirk on his face, one eye-brow raised higher than the other and mouth moved to one side. He then addressed me “So how’s life treating’ yah bub?” I looked back at him “Same old, nothing really changing today, and the name isn’t bub, its Vulner.” The man replied “The names Prior Bud, and what’s with the freaky eyeing you have been giving me ever since I came in here for?” Slightly shocked by his statement I replied, “I just didn’t want to have to deal with some hot shot business man bragging’ about all his successes and all his power! Isn’t that a pile of bull” The man replied, “Well you got it half-right buddy, and yah I suppose you figured that out from the get-up I am in, but that’s no reason to assume these things.” I walked out of the bar, then heard the door open a second time and the man inside shouted out, “Hey Vulner, wait up a second!” I just kept walking, actually slightly faster now because I didn’t want to have to face that man again. He finally caught up to me, slightly winded and said, “You can’t keep going around treating people like this, it isn’t going to help you, you can only help yourself!” I looked back at him and faced him, “you think you know me hot shot? I used to be just like you, a large salary, a high position, and all the power I could dream of. But then that was all taken away, and I was bought out, all my success and all my accomplishments now served me in no way, they were simply items to be bought up for the correct price. We have no real power, it’s all just fake. You don’t know me “bub” so don’t act like you in anyway do.” The man looked at the ground, and then towards the cloudy sky, “Well, if people want to get rid of the clouds in our sky, we have to change something, but if we don’t change, it will all stay the same. A cloudy sky does not help man kind, it only shrouds the problems of our days, but if we can get rid of the clouds in our minds.” He then continues to look back to the ground and then again to the sky, but this time the sun lights up his face and he then looks back to me and says “If you want to get rid of those clouds, just let go, and look for that sun.” I looked at him as he walked away, stunned by what he said, and then it began to rain. Standing drenched for what seems like hours; I looked down at my watch, and the glass cover was shattered, and the hand stood still. “Well, I suppose I need a new watch.”
