Sacrifice
With bags packed too heavy she watched him board the plane
Brown and green head to toe for the red, white, and blue
How long, oh how long would she be without her son?
How long would she pray “Lord, please bring him home soon.”
A salute and a smile was the last glimpse he got
Standing tall, standing brave, as he waved him goodbye
How long, oh how long would he be without his dad?
How long would he pray “Lord, please bring daddy home soon.”
Letters came, Letters went, many phone calls were placed
Empty chairs made empty meals, and empty meals an empty heart
How long, oh how long, would she be without her love?
How long would she pray, “Lord, please bring him home soon.”
He slept in the heat, in the cold, in the snow
Always fighting, always willing, to give himself for the cause
How long, oh how long, would he miss his family?
How long would he pray “Lord, keep them safe for me.”
Music played and people danced in room filled with joy
Tears steamed and people hugged, finally together at last
How long, oh how long, they had waited for this time
And together they prayed “Thank you Lord, he is home."
